Scrapping Process May 22, 2007

Filed under: General — rachelsramblings @ 3:53 pm

So Christy wants to know what my scrapping process is. How do I end up with my final layout?

Well, at this point, I’m just trying to keep up with my design team (dt) deadlines, so at the moment, my pages are dictated by the papers I have to work with. Then I find a picture to fit with the papers. And as of late, I’ve been in funk and can’t come up with any ideas on my own, so I got to sites of scrappers I admire to get some inspiration. Sometimes I lift an entire LO or sometimes I just get a good idea and run with it.

Right now, I need to get some LOs done with the kit from The Kit’s Meow. And I recently went through my collection of LOs that I clipped from magazines. I am in the process of scraplifting one of those as we speak.

2 Challenges May 20, 2007

Filed under: General — rachelsramblings @ 3:09 pm

I’m 2 challenges behind at Scrap Garden, so today’s post will cover both of them.

The first question is to talk about my favorite lines of scrapbooking paper. That’s a hard one. It seems to change daily. But some of the main ones are American Crafts, Crate Paper, Cosmo Cricket, KI Memories, & Scenic Route. Being on a couple of different design teams allows me to use different lines of paper that I normally wouldn’t even think of purchasing.

The second challenge question is to talk about where I grew up. Well, I’m still living here. I was born and raised in Orlando. I lived my first 13 years on Bonnie Brae Circle. I remember having several different friends that lived on my street and going to their houses all the time to play. When I was 13, we moved about 2 miles away and lived on Christian Way. There really wasn’t anyone nearby who was my age, which was ok because by then, I didn’t really “play” at anyone’s house. One thing that people might think was odd was that there was a children’s home directly across the street from us. And it mostly housed boys. But we never had anything bad happen to us from anyone at that place. So there you have it… I grew up in Orlando and no, we didn’t go to Disney all the time!

Before I was a mom May 15, 2007

Again, I’m a bit late on the blog challenges at Scrap Garden, but hey, at least I’m doing them.

In honor of Mother’s Day, Saturday’s challenge was to tell about my life before I was a mom…. Well, I was one of those kids who never really imagined myself as a mom. In fact, when we found out we were pregnant, I was petrified (still am sometimes) that I was going to be a mom! So before I became a mom, I mainly just concentrated on me. I went to college and graduated with a double major in Business and Marketing. After graduation, I came back home and lived with my parents. About a month after graduation, I got a job at a company called The Investment Counsel as a portfolio administrator. My job was basically to do all of the administrative tasks for a group of client accounts that our company managed. This included trading the stocks and bonds in the accounts. The company was small, but I still managed to move up in my department to a senior portfolio administrator position. At that point, I was doing all of the training of portfolio admins under me.

Then at the end of 2001, our company was bought by Intrepid Capital Management and things went crazy. In early 2002, I was offered a job with the new company, which meant moving to Jacksonville. For several reasons, we decided to make the move. And for me and my career, it was a good move. Intrepid had never dealt with so many accounts, so I was able to help the two companies merge together. It wasn’t easy, but we made it. And eventually I moved into being the Manager of Operations for the company.

I really, really liked my job, but I will admit that I like being a Mommy much more. It’s a totally different kind of job, but very rewarding.

My Scrap Style May 10, 2007

Filed under: General — rachelsramblings @ 2:33 pm

Ok, Tuesday’s blog challenge (yes, I know I’m behind) at Scrap Garden is to take a letter from my name and use it to describe my scrapping style.

So, I’ll choose the letter C and call my style clean (and simple too). I’ve only been doing that style for about a year now, but I really like it. I switched my style after reading Cathy Zielske’s 2nd Clean and Simple book. I really like doing it that way and having a defined style. I still struggle with it sometimes, especially trying to add enough embellishments to each layout, but I’m getting there.

Who I admire most May 6, 2007

Here’s my answer for Saturday’s blog challenge at Scrap Garden.

I’ve pondered this question many times when I’ve seen it asked other places. And you know something, I just can’t think of a good answer to the question. I don’t know if that’s a good or a bad thing. Maybe it’s bad that there hasn’t been any one stand out person in my life for me to admire. Or maybe it’s good that I don’t feel like I need to have someone in my life to look up to that much. Whichever it is, I’m sticking to my original answer of nobody… at least for right now.

My hardest subject to scrap May 5, 2007

Filed under: General — rachelsramblings @ 11:23 am

I’m a little late on this blog challenge. This is Thursday’s challenge at Scrap Garden.

Hmmm…. let’s see. What’s my hardest subject to scrap? I guess it would be either me or Daniel mainly because we don’t have that many pictures of ourselves for me to scrap. I guess that means I should take more pictures of us, huh? Well, that wasn’t much writing from me, but it’s better than what I usually post, which would be nothing!

Why do I scrapbook? May 2, 2007

Filed under: General — rachelsramblings @ 2:53 pm

That’s the newest blog challenge question from Scrap Garden.

I scrap so that my children and all others who come after me can know what was going on in our lives. I have a few pictures and albums from my mom and grandma that have tons of pictures in them, but nothing was written about who was in the pictures or in what context the pictures were taken. It’s kind of frustrating and very sad now that they are no longer here for me to ask questions of.

I used to do the obligatory scrapping of every picture of Christmas, etc, but now I’ve gotten more into scrapping the “moments.” What good would it do, if 30 years from now, Amelia looks back at 10 pictures of people opening Chrstmas presents, if she can’t remember that one special toy she got and how she played and played with it. And how even years later, it’s still a special toy. Know what I mean?

And I think it would be hilarious if I knew that my mom or grandma hated ironing so much that they made a layout about it. My kids and grandkids will know that for sure because I did do a layout about how much I hate it. It really is just about scrapping the little things!
