Favorite TV shows April 28, 2007

Filed under: General — rachelsramblings @ 9:06 am

I’m going to do my best to participate in the blog challenges that Christy is giving us over at .:Scrap Garden:.  Today’s challenge is to blog about your favorite shows growing up.

Of course, I liked Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers, but there was one that I liked and remember above all else. The Great Space Coaster! And for the longest time, I seriously thought I had imagined the whole show, because I never heard anyone else talk about it and never saw reruns of it or anything. But thanks to the internet, I can Google it and find all kinds of info about it that I didn’t even know I needed. I remember Gary Gnu of course… and the speedreader guy who did eye exercises before he would read… and for some reason I remember a version of Yellow Submarine that they sang on there. Strange, I know, but that’s what I remember from my childhood.

Oh and I also remember watching Silver Spoons… Ricky Schroeder was to die for!! Hey Christy, are you sure you’re not related to him somehow? You have the same last name! *sigh*

I replied to a post on a message board the other day that asked what words my daughter could say. Until I made the list, I didn’t realize just how many words she actually does say. Below is the list I came up with. It’s so fun to see her learn new things every day!

Jack’s Birth Story April 15, 2007

Filed under: General — rachelsramblings @ 4:33 pm

It took me a while, but I finally got it all typed up. Here is Jack’s birth story:

Jackson Sawyer Cooley

March 28, 2007

12:25 pm

7 lbs 5 oz

19 1/2 in.

We arrived at the hospital at about 9:30 am and got checked in very fast. We were actually in a labor and delivery room before 10:00. And since we got in so quickly, we kind of had to sit around and wait for what seemed like forever. The nurses came in and out to insert the IV and take blood. At 11:30, I got my lovely catheter inserted. For some reason right after she did that and finished explaining everything else to me, I had some kind of anxiety attack or something. I guess thinking about all that was going to happen was overwhelming and I felt like I wasn’t going to be able to handle it all. I had never really felt like that before, but it passed by the time I walked down to the OR at about noon. Oh man, it was so cold in there that I was just shaking uncontrollably. Shortly after getting in there, I received my spinal block and became numb almost immediately.

At around 12:15, Daniel came into the room and they began the cutting! Shortly after that, we could smell the stink of burning flesh. Later my
OB told me that it was harder than usual to cut through my skin. It was a rather odd sensation to smell that and know it was me. But I felt absolutely nothing, so that was nice. At about 12:25 we heard someone crying. Jack was here! He looked a lot like Amelia did when she was born, but a good bit smaller.

They took him over to the incubator and did a lot of cleaning up. Then he and Daniel went to the nursery for all of the stuff they do there. I actually fell asleep while they were stitching me up. I think they had given me some sort of drug or something. Then I was wheeled back to L&D for my recovery. While in there, my face started itching something awful. They said it was a side effect of the spinal block. I received several doses of Benadryl, but ended up scratching my face so much that it was raw for a week! After I had recovered enough, I was wheeled to the nursery to see my baby boy. He seemed so small! Then they took me to my room and we waited for them to bring him in. It was 5:30 before they brought him to us.

I received a “soft” supper of jello and liquids. Then I kind of drifted off to sleep. Well, I quickly woke up when I had the urge to throw up that “soft” supper. And that’s just what I did… all over myself and the bed. But after that, I was fine. I actually stood up that night! My new
OB uses this pain medication called On-Q. It is a catheter type thing that she sews into the incision after the c-section. It continually pumps pain meds directly to the incision site for about 72 hours. It made all the difference in the world as far as my recovery. The recovery for this c-section versus my last one is like night and day! I’m doing so much better this time around.

So far Jack is doing very well. He’s eating and sleeping great and his big sister loves to give him kisses all the time. Of course, she won’t say his name, but she still gives him kisses.
