Until Jack arrives. This time next week, I’ll be somewhere in the hospital waiting to get checked in or waiting to get a room or waiting to get an epidural… something like that!  As of right now, I feel miserable and not just because I’m so pregnant! I have a cold. Yuck. I hope it mostly goes away by next week! I got a cold right before Amelia arrived too and it turned into a cough. Coughing while recovering from a c-section is no fun at all!!

Jack’s room is finally coming together. We got the room mostly cleaned out and set up the changing table/dresser this past Saturday. The crib arrived yesterday, so hopefully we’ll get that set up this weekend.

Daniel’s parents will be arriving next Tuesday evening. His dad will stay until after Jack is born and go back home on Wednesday afternoon so he can preach at his church. His mom will stay with us until probably Saturday. That will be a big help with Amelia while I’m in the hospital. The week after that, I might have one of my nieces come over during the day to help with Amelia. I won’t be able to lift her just yet, so that help will be much appreciated too.

Amelia is still as crazy as ever. She makes me laugh pretty much every day. Her newest thing to say is “uppey-dow” which means up and down like in The Wheels on the Bus song. She’s so silly.

I forgot to write about my recent surprise shower! Well 2 Sunday’s ago, Miriam (my sister-in-law) called me and said that she and Elisabeth (my oldest niece) wanted to take me out the next night for one last fling before Jack arrived. I thought it was a little odd, but it sounded good to me. So they came over and picked me up Monday night and Miriam said she really wanted to go to Chili’s to eat. I was cool with that, so that’s where we went. Well we got there and had to wait for a table that could accomodate Elisabeth’s broken leg (or so I thought). So the hostess finally takes us to our table and on our way to it, I see a friend of mine sitting at another table. I didn’t really think anything of it because she lives out there. I also didn’t notice the 2 big balloons saying congrats on the baby boy!! I am so clueless sometimes!! There were about 9 of us there and it was a really fun time! We weren’t expecting any baby showers since this is number 2 and now we’ll be having 2. Our church is giving us one too. There is another girl at church who is due in May. She already has a boy and is having a girl, just the opposite of us. So they planned a dual baby shower in April so that it’s between our due dates.

Speaking of church, things are moving along with that. We’re actually meeting at the church that wants to merge with us this Sunday. I worked in the nursery during last Sunday’s church service, so I didn’t get to hear of any other news.

I think that’s all from here for now. I’ll try to post one more time before Jack is born!

New church March 4, 2007

Filed under: General — rachelsramblings @ 3:55 pm

Well, today we attended what looks like will be our new church. If you’ll recall, we switched churches over the summer because of an issue with out old church. Well now there’s been a huge issue at the church we just joined. I’ll try to give you the short version….

Apparently, back in June of 2006, before we even came to the church, the pastor had let the music minister go because he wasn’t doing things the way they should have been done. Then just recently we finally got a new music minister who just happens to be a friend of the pastor’s from college. Well somehow the whole deacon board, along with the former pastor of the church who still attends when he’s not supposedly being a missionary, ganged up on the pastor claiming he lied about this, that and the other. Their basic claim was that the pastor fired the old music guy just so he could hire his friend. The deacons were throwing around all of kinds of accusations and one Sunday in January of this year, they were planning to call a meeting to vote the pastor out. Well, as they were coming to the pulpit to do that, the pastor “fired” all of the deacons. Needless to say this didn’t make the deacons very happy. So over the past month and a half, the deacons have been holding “church” services elsewhere and basically plotting to get the pastor out of the church… including threatening a lawsuit. Initially the pastor was going to fight it, but once legal action was being thrown around, he agreed to have the church vote to decide if the pastor was “unfit” to be a pastor. That voting day was this past Wednesday and the place was packed. The church constitution requires a 75% majority to vote out the pastor and the numbers were very close. But at the meeting on Wednesday, the deacons proposed postponing the meeting for 2 weeks AND amending the church constitution to require that it only takes 51% to vote out the pastor. With that news, the pastor just decided to resign…. as did the music minister…. and the youth pastor (who is the pastor’s brother).

But there were enough people in support of the pastor that we all got together today at a member’s huge house and had church. There were 101 people there including about 25 or so kids. So it looks like they are going to move forward with incorporating a new church. It was very cool to see all of those people there supporting the pastor.

So that’s been our excitement around here recently. Yesterday we moved some stuff out of our “office” room to make it into a room for this new baby boy (who looks like will have the name of Jack). We moved my desk and a bookshelf into the back guest bedroom. We’ll also be moving a small filing cabinet and a tv in here. It’s a little tight, but workable. We don’t actually have any furniture for Jack, but that will come soon.

Amelia is still a crazy kid. She’s learned how to say “peek-a” to mean peek-a-boo. It seems like she learns something new everyday!

I guess that’s all from our neck of the woods for now!
