Waiting for paint to dry September 28, 2006

Filed under: General — rachelsramblings @ 4:48 pm

That’s what I’m doing right now, so I thought I’d write a bit.  Our challenge this week for Scrap Survivor is to “alter” something odd.  Altering in the scrapbooking world means to take an ordinary object and add scrapbooking elements (papers and other embellishments) to it to change it.  I found a little chest at Goodwill – it’s about 7 inches tall.  I’ve put paper on all of the sides and have decided to paint the fronts of the drawers because they have a heart as the pull that is super glued on and I can’t get it off.  That makes it a bit hard to cover it with paper.  I’ve put about 5 coats of paint on these darn things.  First I had to cover them with white because it was originally painted in really bright colors.  Then I painted them pink and decided I didn’t like that.  So I painted them back white and stamped them with pink flowers.  Didn’t like that either, so now I’m painting them pink again, but a lighter pink.  Hopefully that will work for me.  I’ll post before and after pictures once I’m done.

Nothing else major going on here.  Daniel had a follow up eye appointment today that he thought would take about 15 minutes.  It ended up taking an hour! Then he went to get his blood taken for tests that his doctor wanted done.  He left here at 12:30 and I figured he would go back to work afterward.  Well at 1:45, the front door opens and he walks in, having just finished with that.  He just decided to stay home for the rest of the day after that.  Amelia was very excited to have her Daddy home for the afternoon.

Other than that, we’re doing fine around here. Nothing major going on.

I did it again September 24, 2006

It’s been so long since I posted on here!! That’s probably b/c not much has been going on. Daniel took off work all last week.  He was home, but was actually doing some self study for continuing education for his CPA.  On Friday, we were both sick. He was more sick than me though. But we’re all better now.

Well, that’s really all that’s going on here. Amelia isn’t totally walking yet, but she’s very, very close. And she’s doing very well.

Oh, I almost forgot about the Scrap Survivor contest. I’m still in it.  This week’s challenge was to create a layout based on a sketch that someone provided.  Here is my take on it. I just love this picture of Amelia!

We also have an immunity challenge each week.  This week’s challenge was to do a layout using only 3 different products (excluding pictures, adhesives, pens for journaling and background cardstock).  I totalled ripped off Celeste’s Swimmer layout and did this one:

I also created this layout this weekend just because:

Just a buncha stuff September 13, 2006

I totally forgot to mention that we joined our new church this past Sunday.  There was a music minister candidating that day too.  He seems pretty good. The old one left the church before we got there, so they’ve just had substitute people doing the music and haven’t had a choir.  It will be nice to have a full time music minister in there. He also preached that night and did a really good job.  I think his position might also be as an associate pastor since the current associate pastor is leaving in January to go to seminary to become a head pastor.

Let’s see… what have I done this week.  Monday was grocery day as usual. I have a routine now. Once Amelia wakes up from her morning nap, we go up to the grocery store and park in that parking lot. Then we walk a little ways over and eat lunch at Tijuana Flats, which is my favorite Mexican restaurant. After that, we stop in a few doors down at the pool store to have our pool water tested.  And then, we go grocery shopping.  I’m the queen of ruts, I tell ya.  Then that night, I had handbell practice.

Tuesday was non-eventful.  We just hung out around the house.  Today, we went to the Y as usual.  Then after Amelia’s morning nap (can you tell that my life revolves around her nap schedule?), I dropped her off at Miriam’s (my sister-in-law) house.  My brother and sister have 6 kids, so there is never a lack of people around to entertain her there.  While she was there, I ran a bunch of errands.  Amelia gets kind of cranky when I have to put her in and take her out of her car seat too many times.  So I try to avoid going into a store needlessly when she’s with me.  I had a few more things I wanted to do, but I ran out of time.

Then, when we got home, she took another nap and has just woken up from that.  Tomorrow night I’m going to do a market research focus group.  I get paid $65 to sit around and talk about pest control. Should be interesting and possibly boring.

Next week, I have handbell practice on Monday night, a bead party on Tuesday night and a Home Interiors party for a friend on Saturday.  Sheesh, that’s a lot of stuff for a girl who doesn’t do that much.

Well, guess I better go fix some supper since it’s almost 7:00.  I’ve also got to do my weekly challenge and immunity challenge for the Scrap Survivor game!! Gotta run.

Sonogram September 10, 2006

Filed under: General — rachelsramblings @ 9:58 pm

We had our first sonogram this past Thursday and got to see the little peanut… or as Daniel likes to call it: “the other baby.”  The little heart was just beating away on there. And the sonogram tech said that the baby was moving a lot! Oh boy, looks like we’ve got another Amelia on our hands.  I think I’ll take it! Right at the end of the whole sonogram after she had been pushing and pushing on my bladder full of 32 oz of water and my c-section scar, the power flickered and the machine went to a white screen. Luckily the images were saved on a hard drive, so nothing was lost.  That sonogram predicted my due date as April 13 and the OB said at my appointment last week that she likes to do scheduled c-sections 1 1/2 to 2 weeks earlier than the due date.  So this little one will be here right around the beginning of April.

Well, Amelia hasn’t done anything more as far as walking goes.  She’s still a bit too wobbly to fully trust herself to move around too much.  She’ll cruise right along the edge of the couch, with her hand just barely touching it, but I think in her mind, she’s too afraid to let go and keep walking.

Our ant situation is getting better, I think. There are still a few ant hills outside the house, so we bought some more ant stuff today for Daniel to spread around in his spare time.

I joined in this scrapbooking contest on a website message board.  It’s similar to the tv show Survivor.  Each week we are given a “challenge” and we have to complete a layout based on that challenge.  This week’s challenge was to “add some spice” to our layouts.  We had to use items on our LO that began with the letters in the word oregano.  Here’s the LO that I did, which I just love:

And here are the oregano items that I added:

O – Olive cs, olive rubon (on oval tag)
R – Rounded corners
E – Embellishment (Metal heart)
G – Ghost letter (lower right hand corner)
A – Alphas, adhesive
N – Nook (CBX) pp
O – Oval date tag

At least I didn’t get eliminated, yet!! Tomorrow morning, we’ll get our next challenge.  It should be interesting.

Ants… September 5, 2006

Filed under: General — rachelsramblings @ 11:15 pm

Ugh, we’ve got ants in our house! A couple of weeks ago, I went to check on the cats’ food and water which is in our back bathroom.  The cat food was full of ants.  So I had to clean all of that out and kill a bunch of ants (I didn’t have any spray).  Then I found them in the family room.  Then in the kitchen and then in Amelia’s room!  I tried to get scheduled for our pest company to come and spray on the first day that I found them.  After a big mess and run around, they finally came out today.  I sure hope that what they did works! Amelia has so many ant bites on her, it’s not even funny.  I’m sure to win the bad parent award by looking at her sad little body full of ant bites.  I checked her bed today after her morning nap and found four or five of them in there.  So I stripped her bed and washed all of her bedding. Then after her afternoon nap, I noticed she had new ant bites and there were another four or five in her bed.  I sprayed my ant spray (that I had to finally buy) around all of the places I thought they might be coming in at.

We had a good Labor Day.  We went down to Ft. Pierce and all of the Cooley clan got to see her and play with her.  It was funny to see her and Lizzy “playing” together.  One time Amelia got a hold of the block that Lizzy had been playing with and started to chew on it.  Well, Lizzy saw her and started screeching at her like a mad bird! It was so funny.  At least this time, Amelia hadn’t outright stolen it from her.  Lizzy had left it laying on the ground.

This morning as we were doing our morning routine, Daniel was holding Amelia.  Well at one point her set her down and she stood on the ground (she’s been standing on her own without holding onto anything for a couple of weeks now).  Well, when he let her go, she took 2 steps before falling down!!!! We were both so shocked.  Then tonight, she was taking steps a couple at a time again.  She’s still very unsteady, but I think we are soon to be in big trouble!
