I’m an addict July 31, 2006

When it comes to buying scrapping stuff that is.  Someone on our scrapping board posted that Costco was now carrying an embellishment kit by Heidi Swapp, so since we don’t really have a Costco near us, I had her buy me one and ship it to me.  I got it today… it’s so stinking cool!!! Now I just have to use the stuff instead of hoarding it like usual!

Nothing too exciting has been happening around here, as usual.  We’re still visiting the new church and that is going well. Daniel has been having to work crazy hours, so we miss him.

Oh, I guess this is big news.  I’m going to be having eye surgery next week.  For as long as I can remember, my left eye has been very droopy.  Mostly it has just been a cosmetic thing, but recently is has actually been giving me problems.  By the end of the day, it is very hard to hold it up.  So when I went to the eye doctor in May, they sent me to an eye specialist.  I did some tests at the specialist and then they had to send all of the stuff to my insurance company.  Well after about a month, our insurance company said they will cover the surgery.  I’m excited, but scared of actually having surgery.  Hopefully it will work well and maybe help boost my self esteem a bit.  I’ve always hated taking pictures b/c of it.  I’ll probably still hate having my picture taken, but at least my eye will look good.

I’m having a mid-scrap crisis July 27, 2006

Teehee.  I’ve been thinking lately about changing my scrapping style.  First, I’m thinking of switching back to 8 1/2 x 11 from my current 12×12.  I’m also thinking of simplifying things.  I ordered Cathy Zielske’s Clean & Simple Scrapbooking: The Sequel.  I have her first book and loved it, but didn’t really embrace her way of scrapbooking, but I haven’t been that happy with some of my recent stuff, so I’m thinking of going her way after all.  Her page designs are really simple in their style: she uses paper and type to create her layouts instead of 500 embellishments.  She also scrapbooks the “moments” instead of events, which I really want to start doing. I want Amelia and my future children to remember how much they loved and played with that toy they got at Christmas instead of showing them 15 pictures of them opening all of their presents and not remembering what they got that year.  So anyway, if you see a different style to my stuff soon, that’s what’s going on.

Well, the in-laws are coming soon, so I need to run.

Ahh, the power of Cheerios July 22, 2006

Filed under: Uncategorized — rachelsramblings @ 4:10 pm

I’ve discovered the power of bribery with Cheerios!!  And Amelia has finally figured out how to gum them down.  They work quite well to keep her quiet in the store.

We went clothes shopping for mommy today.  At first I wasn’t finding anything and was getting mad, but then I finally found some stuff.  Amelia isn’t the best clothes shopping buddy yet though.  After we came out of the dressing room and were about to go check out, I saw a cute dress that I wanted to try on.  Well, I knew Amelia wasn’t going to handle that very well, so I just grabbed it and figured I could take it back if it didn’t fit.  I mean it IS a size 4 after all – there’s now way I can get my big toe into that.  So I tried it on when I got home and it actually fit!! I’m so excited.  There was another size 4 in a different color that I might go back and get.

Not sure what to write July 18, 2006

We’ve had 2 days of VBS so far and 3 more to go.  I’m in the 3 year old class and they are actually pretty good.

I did 2 new digital layouts today.  I love my baby girl!!

We’ve still got to tell people about leaving the church.  Daniel has to get off of the finance committee and I’ve got tons of people to tell.  I’ve got to tell our Sunday School teacher b/c we are currently “group leaders” in there.  I’ve got to tell the nursery lady so she can take us off of the list.  I’ve got to tell the guy in charge of the finance office b/c I’ve been helping them out and they are wanting me to do more for them.  I’ve got to tell our children’s music ministry lady b/c I’m supposed to teach the kids handchime choir again. AND I’ve got to tell my handbell director.  She’s gonna be ticked! Yipes. Oh well, I think the new church (if that’s where we decide to settle) will be a good change for us.  They’ve got a lot of the same opportunities for us and we already know people there.

Changing churches? July 16, 2006

Filed under: General — rachelsramblings @ 8:38 pm

Well it looks like we might be changing churches. I’ve been going to our current one (First Baptist Church of Central Florida or FBCCF) since I was 13, except for when I was in college and the two years we were in Jacksonville. Daniel started coming to the church in 1997 when he got a job here in Orlando. We met at the church.

In 2002, when we were in Jax, the then pastor left the church after it was discovered that he was having an affair with the bookkeeper. Hidden cameras were installed in the church offices b/c there had been some break ins. I’m not sure if any thieves were caught, but the pastor did get caught! It took a while (over a year) for the church to find a new pastor and when we came back to Orlando, we really like him.

But last month, we went to church like normal, but when the pastor started preaching, he was reading something different than what I had in my lap. For some unknown reason, after almost 2 years of being at the church, he switched from using the KJV (King James Version of the Bible) to using the NKJV (New KJV). Now this might not be a big thing to most people, and actually I don’t think it is to most people, but to us it is.

Daniel and I were both raised in Independent Baptist Churches and both of our fathers were pastors (Daniel’s still is). FBCCF is part of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), but when we first started attending it, it seemed more like an Independent church. Then eventually they started going back to the Convention and using their Sunday School material (which uses the SBC’s translation of the Bible, which we were never too keen on. But we stayed anyways b/c the preacher always used the KJV to preach from. But now that he has used the NKJV for several weeks, it looks like we are going to be leaving the church. I’m not even going to get into the particulars of why we use the KJV b/c I am no Biblical scholar by any stretch of the imagination, but it comes to down to which original text a Bible is translated from. I think Daniel’s dad even wrote a thesis about it.

So anyway, today we went and visited our friends’ church. It was really nice and quite a refreshing change. When we were there, we found out that another friend from FBCCF has been visiting there for about a month and will probably be joining. It’s kind of nice to already know some people at a new church, since we aren’t the best at making new friends!

So I’ll keep this blog posted on how things go with our church for sure.

Well, I’ve already missed some days on my blog!  Oh well, I’ll get over it.  So I just posted about a contest at 2BScrapped.  I’ve been doing “digital” scrapbooking (to go along with my regular paper scrapbooking) for a few months now.  I applied to be on 2BScrapped’s creative team (CT) and was accepted.  Basically, I am able to use kits from their designers for free in exchange for creating layouts using those kits.  It’s a way to promote the store and the designers!  I’m also on 2 other CTs – one if for a designer at 2B and another is for a designer at another store.  Both of these designers are girls that are on my birth board at pregnancy.org.  It’s a lot of fun and you can’t beat free!

VBS is coming July 13, 2006

next week. I’m going to be an assistant in the 3 year old class.  I was a teacher in the kindergarten class last year and discovered that I definitely do NOT have the gift of teaching!  I was supposed to have been an assistant in that class, but about a week before it started, the teacher was removed for some reason and I had to teach it.  But the weird thing was that she remained as an assistant, so that became a bit awkward.  So I specifically requested to be an assistant this year.

Tonight I’ve got to go up to the church for a prep meeting for VBS.  I’m taking Amelia because Daniel has to work late, so hopefully I can come home early.

Since Amelia turned 6 weeks old, I’ve been going to the YMCA to work out. I try to go 4 days a week, but sometimes things get in the way. I’ve gotten to the point where I really look forward to going.  I go to the 9:30 class which is different every day.  I have stopped going to the Monday class b/c I can’t stand the instructor.  First of all, she’s jiggly.  If I’m going to be taking classes from someone, I want them to look like they actually work out.  Second of all, she makes us do the most complicated moves! But she doesn’t tell us very well what we’re supposed to be doing next, so she has moved on, but me – the woman with no rhythm – is stuck 2 moves behind.  The last time I went to her class, I walked out in the middle of it b/c I was so irritated.

Tuesdays is the sculpt and tone class which is taught by my favorite instructor.  Her name is Lisa and she IS buff.  I aspire to look like her one day!  Wednesday’s are Boot Camp also taught by Lisa.  That’s more of a cardio class and kicks my butt most times.  Thursdays are another sculpt and tone class but is taught by Patti.  And Fridays are kickboxing – yet another cardio class and taught by Lisa again.  I guess it’s a good thing I like her since she teaches most of the classes!

Nothing much else has gone on today.  I was supposed to get the pool water tested for Daniel and forgot. By the time I remembered, it was time for Amelia’s nap.  I’m trying to scrapbook a page, but can’t seem to come up with any ideas for it, so I’m going to put it off for now….

Houston, we have a…. July 10, 2006

TOOTH!!!!! Amelia finally got her first tooth!! I was putting her in her car seat and caught sight of a flash of white in her mouth.  So I stuck my finger in there trying to see if it was really a tooth and she kept sticking her tongue in the way.  I let her chomp down on my finger and felt the little thing.  It is just a little nub of a thing right now, but it’s finally there.
